The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially unveiled their brand new third jersey for the 2018-19 NHL season. It's a combination of their 1983/84 gold uniform and their 2017 Stadium Series uniform.
BEHIND THE MARKS:
Logo & full black sleeves come from their 2017 Stadium Series jersey they wore against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Black collar and number style is from their 1983/84 gold jersey.
Like both past jerseys it will have the numbers on the shoulders (rare for the NHL).
New waist and sleeve striping.
MEDIOCRE MARKS:
There are elements of this jersey that I like and some that I don't. Overall, I liked the 2017 Stadium Series jersey they had which is pretty close to this one. I like the gold base and the simplistic black sleeve striping. I like the different take on the logo without the triangle. I think it could definitely use some waist stripes. Without waist stripes the jersey becomes a bit too simple and blotchy. I think the jersey looks better with the full uniform than by itself but all jerseys need to be great on their own! People buy and wear just the jersey so it's important that you can say a jersey is beautiful with or without the rest of the uniform. That's my rant on waist stripes! I think the biggest disappointment is that people were expecting something unique but it's really just the same as their Stadium Series jersey. I give it a 7/10.
