New York Islanders Officially Unveil NEW Third Jersey for 2018-19

The New York Islanders have officially unveiled their brand new third jersey for the 2018-19 NHL season. It matches the one leaked a month ago but the real thing looks better for sure.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE MARKINGS:

  • Inspired by their 2014 Stadium Series jersey (white shoulder yokes, "NY" logo).

  • Their "NY" logo has been updated for the third time. The four orange stripes have been moved from the shaft of the stick to the blade. The blade had also been straightened instead of on an angle.

  • The four orange stripes on the blade represent the Islanders' four Stanley Cups.

  • The map of Long Island is on the inner part of the collar while the word "ISLANDERS' is written on the outside of the collar (the first time that has been done).

HIGH MARKS:

Despite some criticism, I like this jersey! The "NY" logo is simple yet has some meaning to it and the revisions made to it make it even better. Something about the white shoulder yokes really work for me. And the addition of their name to the outside of the collar is new & unique. Another thing is that the design utilizes the Adidas collar very well so that it doesn't stand out more than it should. It's a modern version of their primary set and I'm very happy to see that there are still waist stripes (even if they are thin and right on the edge). I give it a solid 8/10.
